Awesome Start and Mosaic Project

During the first and second week of school all of the DIS art classes have been or will be learning about the exciting artist in residence project with Mr. Kevin Lehman. Mr. Lehman is a distinguished clay artist within Lancaster County who has completed multiple residences, workshops, and guest lectures at local schools and universities. During Mr. Lehman's time at DIS all students will be participating in the design, creation, and installation of the Northwest River Trail Mosaic. In order to prepare for the design phase of the project students have been learning about the historic river town of Marietta, as well as the Riverfront Park. Picture of design ideas created by DIS students will be posted soon.

Students were sent home a permission slip during the first week of school pertaining to the Riverfront Park mosaic. The permission slip needs to be signed and returned to me, Miss Fisichella, in order for your child to be able to participate in the filming of the mosaic project. If you child does not wish to be apart of the film I still need the permission slip returned-please just note your child's wish to not participate on the form. The due date for the permission slip was September 5th, but I can still accept signed forms until the 22nd of September. Please have your child see me if they need another form.

I am very excited to see the mosaic project with Mr. Lehman develop. Students at DIS for the 2014-2015 school year are so very lucky to be able to create a piece of art work that will not only be a great learning experience, but a memory that will be permanently installed in an area of the Marietta community that is frequently traveled and visited by many.

More information on the mosaic project will be sent home as the project and year unfolds.

The wall where our mosaic will be installed.

Installation of the mosaic will happen on Saturdays. More information will be sent home closer to install dates.

Welcome To The 2014-2015 School Year!

I am very excited to begin the school year! There is a lot in store for our artists including the creation and installation of a permanent mosaic wall-which will be beautiful at its completion. Students in all grades will be creating and learning about various artists, mediums, and art periods. Students will create 3D works, 2D works, ceramics, sculptures, drawings, paintings, printmaking, to name just a few.

In all of my art classes every student is safe to create, learn, and most importantly make mistakes. I believe every single student will not only reach their individualized goals, but surpass them through hard work, dedication, and my belief in them, which shows every single day in my art room. :)

All of my students have a chance to earn a free art day as according to "Class Dojo". Class Dojo is all online and is a rewards systems that allows students and myself to see how everyone is doing in art class. I can reward students for following the preset expectations. At the end of each day Class Dojo will let my students know and myself know how well they did. Every time the students have a great day in art class (as shown by Class Dojo) students earn a crayon in their class crayon box. Once their crayon boxes are full the whole class will have a free art day!

I look forward to seeing all of my students on the first day of school!
